One of my best friends, here in Dakar, Maurice asked me to give him a lift to pick up his motorbike today. He is starting up a business importing frozen fish into Senegal from Mauritania. He just came back from a trip to Nouakchott, the capital of Mauritania. He had an interesting story of how he left his hotel to get something to eat and was thrown into a police van and taken off to the police station. What drama! Later he discovered that there had been a spate of robberies in Nouakchott and there was a curfew after 10 pm or something like that. Poor thing, no one bothered to mention that. Anyway luckily, he has a good sense of humour plus friends in high places who came to rescue him. Travelling in some African countries requires a very relaxed attitude and a positive outlook on life at all times!
